  • Where The Bison Roam

    Where The Bison Roam

Where the Bison Roam Exploring the Badlands of South Dakota has many unexpected surprises. At a trailhead stop, all that could be seen were surrounding grasslands and canyons. Upon taking a few steps up a small hill, this Bison was immediately in full presentation just a short distance away. Note the lookback in the bison's eye to see the people gathering at the ridge line. A quick photo and then gave room to the Bison to continue its grazing. Amazing beauty but a force that you wouldn't want to happen upon in too close of proximity in the wild. Photographed in the Badlands National Park of South Dakota. • Doing The Bison Roll

    Doing The Bison Roll

This bison is clearly the ruler of his domain. His magnificence is undeniable and he clearly loves to flaunt it with great might and show of strength. He forced others to move out so that he could enjoy and relish in his mud roll and leave his scent in the wallow. All other nearby bison gave him every bit of space that he demanded. After the wallow he gave a few powerful shakes to spread it far and near. All part of the bison rut display of dominance. October, 2018. Yellowstone National Park. www.shootingnomads.com

  • The Mighty Bison

    The Mighty Bison

Bison at Yellowstone National Park-Wyoming-October-2017. This mighty bison brought up the read of a stampeding herd across the grasslands at Yellowstone. He clearly made certain that all herd members, young and old had safely moved forward before he continued onward. His essence was of terrific presence and strength.

  • The Youngest of the Elk Herd

The Youngest of the Elk Herd

This young elk was photographed in Cataloochee Valley, North Carolina. The young elk had seperated from the ladies and came exploring close to the river nearby where I was located. He gazed in my direction with gentle curiosity. Across the river was the leader of the heard and upon seeing the young one in close proximity to me, gave a call and the young elk immediately leaped across the stream to join the rest of the herd on the other side of the valley. • Young Elk of Cataloochee Valley

    Young Elk of Cataloochee Valley

This young elk was beautifully lit in the morning sun was with a very quiet demeanor. He was keeping a close watch on the herd leader and trying hard not to create any offense in his direction. The boss ranted and raved around other herd elk and eventually left without threatening this young one. Clearly he was relieved and only started to move about freely after the big boss had departed town. • Utah Pronghorn In The Lead (708)

Utah Pronghorn In The Lead (708)

Greetings. Taking the lead position, this pronghorn leads the way for the herd in safe passage across the desert floor. With a slight gesture of the head he signals an all clear and the herd moves forward. Travelling solo or in small groups, these pronghorn possess a great swiftness to move quickly from harms way if needed. Here, although watchful of my presence they did not seem to feel threatened and grazed closely in my proximity for a short while. Photographed in Grand County, Utah. April 2019

    Moose Munchies (631)

Madame moose is enjoying her afternoon meal. We learned an interesting fact that moose do not have any upper teeth. They use their upper lip to strip the leaves from a stem. They must have quite a stiff upper lip! This fine lady was photographed along the Maligne Road in Jasper National Park, Canada. September, 2018. (631) www.shootingnomads.com
