  • Little Lady

    Little Lady

This little madam was our first true encounter with an opportunity to photography peacocks. Initially she was displaying and protecting her ground. Slowly we moved around her and gave plenty of space. Before long she gave way to curiosity and became our closest companion. As we walked around Tom Bolack's Ranch, in New Mexico, this little lady followed us wherever we went. I think she was attracted to my husband as he was wearing a similarly colored blue jacket. What a love she is! Farmington-New Mexico-April-2018

  • Key West Rooster (772)

    Key West Rooster (772)

A visit to Key West Florida is a must see for feral chicken viewing. These gorgeous chickens are the descendants of chickens brought to the island by settlers for meat, eggs, and cockfighting entertainment. Cuban immigrants who came to Key West in the late 19th century and brought their own breed of “Cubalaya” chickens with them. As poultry and eggs became readily available in the markets and cockfighting became illegal, the chickens were released by their owners or escaped from their enclosures to roam the streets freely. Today these chickens are protected and offer a delight to tourist visiting the Key West area. Photographed January 2020. www.shootingnomads.com
