Osprey At Play (829) Greetings! Sharing with you a photo of a couple of delightful Osprey! They were a little on the bored side. They had been waiting for quite some time for dad to bring in a fish. It was getting late and their patience was wearing thin. Clearly it was time for a little action to break up the wait. A full on attack from above and a quick escape set the stage for a little play. Brown Pelican Lift Off (806)

Greetings from The Shooting Nomads. During our lockdown phase we were blessed to be on the ocean front in a campground at Carrabelle, Florida. One of the most peaceful times of the day was watching the pelicans fly back and forth between piers in search of fresh fish. This photo was a classic pose of a Brown Pelican taking to the air along the shoreline. March 2020. ILCE-7RM4 500mm F4 DG OS HSM | Sports 016 500mm,ƒ/4.5, 1/2000s, ISO 100

  • A Starling's Hidden Treasure (831)

    A Starling's Hidden Treasure (831)

This old rustic barn in Virginia was just the perfect location for starling parents to raise their babies. The starlings would fly to the nearby grass fields in search of grasshoppers, spiders and worms and bring them here to the barn. They worked throughout the day back and forth with great earnest in bringing home some food. For inside that raised corner was their pride and joy of a young family tucked safely away in their nest. This starling has just fed the babies and is getting ready to head back out to the fields. The colors of the starling are in full light as the sun is setting and shows off the gorgeous feathering of this beautiful bird. Photographed in Fort Chiswell, Virginia. 2020

  • Osprey Parenting-A Slow Wean (827)

    Osprey Parenting-A Slow Wean (827)

Transitioning to an adult but still holding on to the tail feathers of mom and dad. This young osprey has learned to fly and usually perches in a nearby tree instead of the nest. The young bird dominates the skies with its family and works on perfecting its flight skills. Still, when hungry the young bird starts to cry like a baby. It hasn't yet learned to fish and still waits for dad to bring in a tasty morsel. The young osprey has been impatient and crying for food for some time. As dad flies back and comes closer with the catch, the young osprey will fly back to the nest of comfort and security. Dad will drop in the fish, pause for a few seconds and then fly off again leaving the youngster to pick up the fish and take it to the tree perch for its evening meal. It is a slow process in teaching them the skills for catching their own fish. For now, mom and dad provide that safehaven for food, shelter and protection slowly teaching all of the skills that the young osprey will need for survival. This young osprey is growing impatient. He has been waiting for quite awhile for dad to bring in a fish but the wait is just too long. Make Way For The Gator (789)

Make Way For The Gator Make way for the Gator! After giving a low guttural call and a few minutes later, this gator was on the move. I had heard the gator and knew that it was close by. I saw a lady start to look deep into the grasses saying she thought she saw something moving. I said yep, it's a gator and you need to move back NOW! Sure enough the big fellow came right out walking with a purposeful stride and crossed the trail with a few feet of us. Without a sense of hesitation, he crossed over and into the wetlands on the other side of the trail. Point well taken to know your surrounding and watch carefully for each step you take. Photographed in the Everglades of Florida,
