  • The Face

    The Face

This location requires access during low tide as the area and mile plus hike is otherwise covered under water.

  • The Rugged Maine Coast

    The Rugged Maine Coast

A night capture from the rugged coast of Maine. It was absolutely amazing to spend the night at this location and witness the skyline as the fog slowly dissipated and the stunning Milky Way revealed itself off the coastline.

  • The Rapids under the Stars

    The Rapids under the Stars

I have to admit that this one was a bit more scary to shoot as it involved getting up on a slippery and precarious ledge so I could get a better perspective of the flowing waters. The ledge had barely enough space for me and the camera tripod to fit on but in the end, I think the effort paid off.

  • Island Under the Stars

    Island Under the Stars

I have finally started working on my Maine images from the summer of 2020. The shoreline is laced with these beautiful islands and the scenery changes dramatically each time you visit due to the amazing tide swings in the region.

A night spent under the stars near these beautiful rapids in Maine.

  • Tree on the Rock

    Tree on the Rock

Found this little tree growing on a small rock mound in Maine, and could not resist capturing it with the night sky.

  • The Trishul

    The Trishul

The remnants of this tree reminded me of the Trishula or Trishul, a divine symbol, commonly used as one of the principal symbols in Hinduism. In India and Thailand, the term also often refers to a short-handled weapon which may be mounted on a danda or staff. But unlike the Okinawan sai, the trishula is often bladed. In Malay (including Malaysian and Indonesian), trisula usually refers specifically to a long-handled trident while the diminutive version is more commonly known as a chabang or tekpi. The name "trishula" ultimately derives from the Sanskrit word त्रिशूल (triśūla), from त्रि (trí), meaning "three", and शूल (śū́la), meaning "a sharp iron pin or stake", referring in this case to the weapon's three prongs. The trishula is wielded by the god Shiva and is said to have been used to sever the original head of Ganesha. Godess Durga also holds a trishula, as one of her many weapons. The three points have various meanings and significance, and, common to the Hindu religion, have many stories behind them. They are commonly said to represent various trinities: creation, preservation, and destruction; past, present, and future; body, mind and atman; dharma or dhamma (law and order), bliss/mutual enjoyment and emanation/created bodies; compassion, joy and love; spiritual, psychic and relative; happiness, comfort and boredom; pride, repute and egotism; clarity, knowledge and wisdom; heaven, mind and earth; soul, fire and earth; soul, passion and embodied-soul; logic, passion and faith; prayer, manifestation and sublime; insight, serenity and bodhisattvahood or arhatship (anti-conceit); practice, understanding and wisdom; death, ascension and resurrection; creation, order and destruction; the three gunas: satva, rajas and tamas.

    Nature's sculptures II

One of my favorite trees, this time under the watchful gaze of the Milky Way.

  • The Seven Sisters

    The Seven Sisters

For a thousand years, these seven towering trees have stood steadfast at the ocean's edge, bearing witness to the ebb and flow of the tides. On this particular night, their gnarled branches appeared stark against the backdrop of the Milky Way, while the gentle lapping of the waves evoked a profound sense of amazement and reverence. This scene served as a powerful reminder of the boundless wonders of the natural world and the infinite expanse of the cosmos.

A Milky Way View from St. Mark's Lighthouse II

This image captures the stunning Milky Way as it illuminates the night sky above St. Marks Lighthouse. The lighthouse stood tall against the backdrop of the starry sky, with its bright beam of light extending out into the darkness. The stars above seemed to twinkle and dance, creating a mesmerizing display that was both beautiful and awe-inspiring. It's a reminder of the incredible beauty that surrounds us, and of the vastness of the universe that we are lucky enough to be a part of.

A Milky Way View from St. Mark's Lighthouse

I had the opportunity to explore this state park during our stay in the area. Most nights had been cloudy or too windy but conditions came together for this image. The winds were calm and the water channel was at low tide so I decided to venture down close to the edge hoping there would not be any critters lurking in the dark. I was hoping to find a spot where I could catch the lighthouse reflected in the water but quickly aborted that idea as my shoes started sinking in the mud. Trying not to panic, I finally did make it back to a more stable spot and capture this shot.

  • The Swamps at Night

    The Swamps at Night

A Milky Way from somewhere in the Forgotten Coast of Florida. This is my first attempt to capture the MW with my freshly astro-modded camera. With the mod, the camera does a better job of capturing the pink/magenta glow of the amazing nebulae in the sky, however, color balancing the image gets a lot more tricky as well.

  • The Fallen Tree III

    The Fallen Tree III

There are several amazing trees at Mashes Sands Beach that have withstood the test of time but there was on really beautiful tree that had fallen down and lay on its side. The beautiful patterns of the bark fascinated me and I was able to capture the tree with the Milky Way. The tree was lit up with a small LED light.

  • Stargazing at Tsegi Overlook

    Stargazing at Tsegi Overlook

Tsegi Overlook is a perfect spot for stargazing, especially during the night when the Milky Way appears in all its glory. As you gaze up at the Milky Way, it's hard not to feel a sense of awe and wonder at the sheer magnitude and beauty of the universe we live in. It's truly a remarkable experience and a reminder of how small we are in the grand scheme of things.

  • Nature's Sculptures

    Nature's Sculptures

A MW from the mystic Bisti Badlands. I had the opportunity to spend a fair bit of time last year among these amazing structures. The distant coyotes kept me company during the night.

  • The Sleeping Dragon

    The Sleeping Dragon

A celestial canvas painted by starlight, made this desert landscape of sculpted rock formations look like a dragon resting. The Bisti Badlands is a remarkable geological wonderland located in northwestern New Mexico, known for its otherworldly rock formations that seem to have been sculpted by some ancient and mysterious force. These sculpted rocks, which have been eroded over millions of years, take on a variety of shapes and colors, from towering hoodoos and spires to delicate arches and fins. At night, under the glittering Milky Way, the Bisti Badlands takes on an even more surreal quality, with the starry sky providing a stunning backdrop to the already awe-inspiring rock formations.
