Some Days Are Better Than Others (819)

Some days are better than others. You never know what your future will hold so make the most of each and every day. In this photo a Ring Billed Gull has found a tasty fish for breakfast and was working fast and furiously to scarf it down before others could swoop in to take it away! As for the fish...……..well...….it wasn't a good day. Photographed at Marlboro Beach in Lamoine, Maine. June 2020. www.shootingnomads.

Sharing with you a sweet little scene from the local park harbor here in Ellesworth, Maine. Quack, Quack Says The Little Duck Bright eyed little duck waking up from an afternoon nap. You can see the gentle love and affection glowing from his mothers eyes. After a few yawns and stretches, these two were off for a swim. Quack, quack said the little duck and off they went! Young Merganser Siblings (822)

Greetings. Here in Maine for a few months and enjoying the beautiful nature that abounds. This photo was taken at a quiet town inlet along the shoreline. Young Merganser siblings basking in the morning amidst the rocks after an early morning of fishing and swimming. Mother merganser is close by keeping an eye on her brood. This merganser family is a delight to watch as they grow and learn along the waters edge. What a pleasure to enjoy a lazy, lovely summer in Maine with the birds. Blessed by people who share a love of photography and nature. July 2020. www.shootingnomads.com

    Impatient Osprey (826)

This young osprey is growing impatient. He has been waiting for quite awhile for dad to bring in a fish but the wait is just too long. He stretches and fluffs in preparation for take off to find his own meal. At this point the young osprey is flying but stays close to the nest and his parents. He is learning to fish but still has much to learn. After a few minutes of flight with unsuccessful fishing, he returned to the tree perch with his mom and continued his wait. • Osprey Parenting-A Slow Wean (827)

    Osprey Parenting-A Slow Wean (827)

Transitioning to an adult but still holding on to the tail feathers of mom and dad. This young osprey has learned to fly and usually perches in a nearby tree instead of the nest. The young bird dominates the skies with its family and works on perfecting its flight skills. Still, when hungry the young bird starts to cry like a baby. It hasn't yet learned to fish and still waits for dad to bring in a tasty morsel. The young osprey has been impatient and crying for food for some time. As dad flies back and comes closer with the catch, the young osprey will fly back to the nest of comfort and security. Dad will drop in the fish, pause for a few seconds and then fly off again leaving the youngster to pick up the fish and take it to the tree perch for its evening meal. It is a slow process in teaching them the skills for catching their own fish. For now, mom and dad provide that safehaven for food, shelter and protection slowly teaching all of the skills that the young osprey will need for survival. • Osprey At Play (829)

    Osprey At Play (829)

Osprey At Play (829) Greetings! Sharing with you a photo of a couple of delightful Osprey! They were a little on the bored side. They had been waiting for quite some time for dad to bring in a fish. It was getting late and their patience was wearing thin. Clearly it was time for a little action to break up the wait. A full on attack from above and a quick escape set the stage for a little play.
