A quiet and calm night along the shores of Bear Lake in Colorado.

Dragon's Lair

A Milky Way from the Black Canyon of Gunnison, south rim in western Colorado. It surrounds part of a deep, steep-walled gorge carved through Precambrian rock by the Gunnison River. Roads and trails along the north and south rims have views of the Black Canyon's dramatic drops and the striated Painted Wall cliff. Light from a lone camper was visible on the valley floor.

Fragments of Time

After a somewhat hair raising 4X4 road trip to Crystal Mill it was neat to have the place to myself as the evening progressed. Tried several different compositions but this is one of my favorites from this location. The image is a composite with the foreground taken earlier in the evening.

A Poetic Place

This image was taken in Yankee Boy Basin near Ouray, a 12,000 ft. elevation alpine basin nestled in the mountains and accessed via a dicey 4WD road. This was my second attempt to visit this spot after chickening out the first time half way through the trip. For my second attempt, I used our Jeep Rubicon instead of the Chevy truck and that worked well except that I bent the tow bar in front. Anyway, the trip ended up being worthwhile as the evening drew to an end yielding this beautiful sunset by the falls.
